What the GEO | ART is?

The GEO | ART is a project of the Department of Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. The project by is carried out by a team of the members of the Department of Graphics: doc. Robert Brun, akad. mal., MA. Patrik Ševčík, ArtD. and MA. Katarína Czikorová.

The goal is to create a platform for students and young artists interested in interaction between art, graphic design and new technologies, especially GPS technologies.

The GEO | ART project works on the same principles as geocaching, as a treasure hunting game using GPS devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. The main idea is to show the alternative presentation of student's work in relation to the environment. The first plan is to build a network which should consist of containers placed at different locations. The particular location of a hidden container is defined by GPS coordinates which are put on a website. The content of a container could be any kind of art; stamps, posters, etc. Each of the containers will have its own specific set of GPS coordinates and a map of a location which will be put on the website. Anyone who is interested in finding an artistic box needs to have GPS coordinates.

Who can participate in the GEO | ART?

Young artists from any academy or university of fine arts are welcome to create and hide their artwork in a box.
"Collector of art" can be anyone who is interested in art.

Where are geoart boxes located? A box can be hidden in any location – at the local park, inside buildings, underwater – except places which don't have access – private areas or places where you have to pay for the entrance.
